The Benefits of Grass Fed and Organic Beef

There are many reasons why this is so and they all return to the same epicenter – people want to live and eat healthier. Organic food stores help deliver on such expectations. Most people realized processed foods and meats are poor diet choices. That is why they are looking towards organic and grass fed beef as the solution to their common dietary concerns.
Some may wonder why beef can be considered a healthy food choice when there has been much written about beef that is not flattering. Is it really a bad food choice? Common food store beef products are loaded with a number of chemicals and processed items that do not exactly make for a quality nutritional purchase. However, those that buy organic or store fed beef will discover that it has much value. Actually, the purchase of either of these two types of beef may prove to be the best purchasing decision that you ever make.

In order for cattle to survive, they will need to eat. This means they must be fed by those raising them for food. In order to save money, cattle ranchers will feed them grains which are not the natural part of the cow’s diet. This can have a negative effect on the quality of the meat. Generally, it is a lack of nutrients that will be the most common problem with the average diet of a cow. Conversely, when the cow is fed grass on the range, it will receive a very nutritious diet that can prove to enhance the quality of the cow’s meat to a significant degree. Remember, if the quality of the meat lags then you will not be procuring a decent diet in the end.
Cattle, like all animals, needs to eat in order to survive. The cattle that is raised for food is only going to be as good at the diet it is fed. Over the years, ranchers cut costs by feeding the cattle with items that really were not all that beneficial or healthy to the cow. Cows, for example, do not eat grains in their natural environment but this is what they are commonly fed when raised for food. Such feed is not all that good for the cattle and it undermines the quality of the meat. This leads to a decidedly non-nutritious serving of red meat on your dinner table. Rather than deal with that problem, it would be a lot better to look towards grass fed beef as a viable alternative. The meat is far more nutritious because it absorbs all the nutrients from natural grass. Clearly, that would be much better for the cow’s growth that the unnatural feed it is commonly served. Serving 90+% of the cattle’s diet in the form of grass helps achieve this goal nicely.
Then, there is the other side of the proverbial coin – you also want to avoid eating something that is not natural to your diet. Certainly, chemicals and other processed ingredients would fall into this category. As such, it is advised to purchase organic beef since this is a much healthier cut of meet than what would be found in most store bought meat. To be certified organic, the beef has to go through a number of additional criteria that weighs the environment in which the cow was raised, its ability to move freely on the range, and, most importantly, the ability to keep hormones or antibiotics out of the diet of the cow. Keep in mind the fact that any unnatural substances given to the cow finds its way into your system when you eat the cow. That alone should make you want to stick with pure organic beef.
There is no reason to totally eliminate beef from one’s diet. You can eat a healthy diet that includes red meat provided you are willing to purchase organic or grass fed beef. Sure, they may cost a little more but they are definitely a more valuable purchasing choice for those that want to eat the right diet.
