As a general guideline, dieters eat cabbage soup every day, plus fruit on the first day, vegetables on day two, vegetables and fruit on day three, skim milk and bananas on day four, beef and tomatoes on the fifth day, vegetables and beef on the sixth day, and brown rice, vegetables, and fruit juice on the final day. Those using the diet then switch back to their normal dietary habits, hopefully now a few pounds lighter.
Is the Cabbage Soup diet really effective for fast weight loss? Although no official controlled study has examined the diet conclusively, dieters using the diet report mixed success. For several people, the program resulted in weight loss (up to ten pounds), but only for a short while, as the pounds gradually returned as the dieter returned to normal dietary habits. Some people reported light-headedness, fatigue, and lack of focus while following the diet. Other people did not feel any effects at all, seeing no weight loss, but no illness either.
